“It’s not easy for me” – Celine Dion is terminally ill and addresses her fans

“I have had health problems for a long time and it is not easy for me to deal with them. It makes me very sad to tell you that I will not be ready to start my European tour again in February,” said Celine Dion in a video, which she posted on her Instagram channel on Thursday, where more than five million people follow her there.

Many fans are now shocked by the news, others express their condolences to the 54-year-old. “Take care of yourself”, it says or: “You will make it, we believe in you”.

In the video, Dion continues, “I was recently diagnosed with a very rare neurological condition called stiff person syndrome, which affects one in a million people.” Dion suffers uncontrolled convulsions as a result of the disease. “These spasms affect every aspect of my daily life.”

Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) causes muscles to contract uncontrollably. The condition eventually leaves patients like “human statues” as the body is gradually placed in rigid positions, eventually rendering people unable to walk or speak. There is currently no cure for the disease, but there are treatments to ease the symptoms.

Concerts of Dion postponed

The singer postpones five concerts of her “Courage World Tour” for health reasons. Dion had already completed the first 52 dates of the tour in North America before the outbreak of the corona pandemic and the tour had to be paused from March 2020. “Since then, a team of doctors has been intensively caring for the artist due to severe and persistent muscle cramps, which currently prevent her from performing,” says the organizer.
