As soon as candles burn, they are usually thrown away because you no longer know what to do with the candle. To avoid wasting wax this winter, Blick has collected 5 ideas on how to recycle wax.
Make new candles
Now one of the most popular ways to breathe new life into beeswax is to make new candles from it. Get creative and create a new candle quickly and easily.
All you need is a container of your choice, a new candle wick, leftover wax, a clothespin and two skewers. First, wash the container you plan to use. Then place the latch between the two kebab skewers on the bowl and attach it to the wick. Chop the remaining wax and melt it in a water bath. Then pour the liquid wax into the prepared container.
If you want to make a scented candle, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil before pouring the liquid wax.
Make fire burners out of it
What could be more beautiful than the fire burning in the fireplace in winter? You usually need a fire starter to light it. Additionally, all you need now to make your own candles is sawdust and an egg carton.
Chop the remaining wax and let it melt in a water bath. Then add some sawdust and mix everything until the sawdust absorbs the wax. Wear gloves and make small pieces of the mixture. Place them in the grooves of the egg carton to dry.
impregnation shoes
Now you can use wax not only to burn things, but also for completely unexpected things: for example, for shoes that always wet your feet when it rains. You only need a cloth and a hair dryer to easily soak up your kicks with wax residue.
Make sure you only use clear or white mesh for this size and that your shoes are clean and dry. Your shoes should not be made of leather – fabric or artificial leather is suitable.
Break up the wax residue and use the rag to rub it into your shoes. Now blow dry the shoes so that the wax melts and is absorbed. Let everything dry overnight and your shoes won’t hold water.
decorate easter eggs
It’s more until Easter, but it might be worth it if you save your remaining wax until then. Now all you need is a candle and a brush to succeed in creating beautiful decorations on your Easter eggs.
Crush and melt your remaining wax. Use a brush and liquid wax to draw patterns on the still white eggs and let dry. If you paint the eggs now, the color will not stick to the areas you waxed and you will get a beautiful pattern.
Donate the remaining candles
If you don’t want to make anything new from your leftover wax but still don’t want to throw it away, there are various candle makers that will take the leftover wax and make new candles. For example, one of them is SinnLicht.
