As did their children, True and Lillie Parker, in a statement via announced that Kirstie Alley has passed away at the age of 71. The American actress celebrated her big break in the sitcom “Cheers”, where she was able to provide a lot of laughs from 1987 to 1993 together with Ted Danson, Norm Peterson and Woody Harrelson. Ultimately, her performance as Rebecca Howe on the series earned her a Golden Globe and an Emmy.
Kirstie Alley was not only a TV star, but also had some successes in the cinema. Arguably the greatest of these is the 1989 comedy Look Who’s Talking. Here, Alley slipped into the role of heavily pregnant Mollie, who goes into labor during a cab ride. Her taxi driver (John Travolta) then becomes her babysitter and later her partner. Two more sequels followed with “Look Who’s Talking 2” and “Look Who’s Talking Now”.
In addition, Alley had appearances in the melodrama “Torches in the Storm”, traveled the endless expanse of space as Lieutenant Saavik in “Star Trek II – The Wrath of Khan” and was in several genre films such as “Runaway – Spiders of Death “, “Murderful Head” or John Carpenter’s “The Village of the Damned”. Her cameo in the 8th season “King Of Queens” is also great, with which Kristie Alley once again mercilessly ridiculed her own image.
Most recently, Kristie Alley starred in David O. Russell’s Love Without Health Insurance, starred in Season 2 of Scream Queens, and appeared on reality television such as Fat Actress and Celebrity Big Brother. But most will surely remember her as Rebecca Howe and Mollie.
