The Shadows, Dr. Stanton & the Mirror Man: Mike Flanagan answers all the unanswered questions about the Netflix series “Goosebumps at Midnight”

Fans of Mike Flanagan were disappointed when Midnight Goosebumps was canceled after the first season. One reason for this may be that the series just didn’t bring the success that those responsible for Netflix had hoped for. But maybe it’s also because the contract between Flanagan and Netflix has expired. It was recently announced that the horror mastermind will be partnering with Amazon in the future. With “The Fall Of The House Of Usher” we can expect one last Flanagan format on the big red N.

Mike Flanagan prepared for the emergency a few weeks ago and promised that if Goosebumps After Midnight was canceled, he would answer any open questions. He has now done that.

In an extended tumblr post, Flanagan revealed all the details planned for a second season. His introduction reads: “I am very disappointed that Netflix has decided not to release a second season of ‘Midnight Goosebumps’.” So I’m writing this blog as our official second season so you know what it could have been like.”

who would have died

As Mike Flanagan reveals in the thread, would be amesh (Sauriyan Sapkota), natsuki (Aya Furukawa), Kevin (Igby Rigney) and Ilonka (Imam Benson) died in the second season “Goosebumps at Midnight”.. There were also plans to bring a new patient to Brightcliffe Hospice – and Spencer (William Chris Sumpter) would have benefited from medical advances in AIDS treatment. In any case, he would no longer have been terminally ill in the final.

In the second season, Mike Flanagan is also said to have adapted Christopher Pike’s novel “Remember Me”. One of Flanagan’s all-time favorite Pike books, this tells the story of a teenage ghost trying to solve his own murder after being pushed off a balcony. This arc would have had to do with Ilonka learning to accept her own death through the story.

what about dr stanton?

About Dr Stanton (Heather Langenkamp) also spoke extensively with Mike Flanagan. She is actually the daughter of the original Paragon cult leader, Aceso. Nicknamed Athena, she wrote the Paragon Journal that Ilonka found in Season 1.

They were also the initials of Dr. Stanton, who found Ilonka carved into the tree in Season 1 (her birth name was Georgina Ballard). She hated what had become of her mother and wanted to turn the Brightcliffe estate into a place to celebrate life.

That at the end of season 1 it turns out that Dr. Stanton wears a wig because she’s undergoing chemo – because she has cancer. So the disguise is not malicious in nature. So after helping so many people manage their disease in the best way possible, she now has to deal with it herself. As Flanagan explains, her treatment will be successful.

What’s behind the living shadows?

The living shadows are not an evil entity in Midnight Goosebumps. Moreover, as Flanagan makes clear, they are not death itself, but the utterly unknown. When the shadows engulf a person, they are taken to a place of understanding and catharsis.

This happened to Anya (Ruth Codd) in Season 1 when a shadow reached her. Only then could she accept her death. That’s exactly what should happen to Ilonka and Kevin in season 2. They too would have been reached by shadows and would not only have been able to remember their past, but also understand that they had nothing to fear.

So if the living shadow is not death, then who is? The answer would also have been revealed in season 2: it’s the janitor (Robert Long Street), who appeared in two episodes of the first season. It is said that there is no janitor in Brighcliffe, only the young people encounter this mysterious figure shortly before their deaths.

Who is the mirror man and the staring woman?

Meanwhile, the Mirror Man and the Cataract Woman are Stanley Oscar Freelan and his wife. They were responsible for the construction of Brightcliffe. The name Stanley Oscar Freelan is no accident, because once again Mike Flanagan has his love here Stephen King expressed: In reality, Freelan Oscar Stanley is the one who also built the Stanley Hotel – and this is the inspiration for the novel and horror classic “The Shining”.

“Midnight Goosebumps” would have ended with Cherie (Adia) telling that story to a brand new table with new patients. A large part of the well-known characters would henceforth exist as stories. As a story we all participated in – namely “The Midnight Club” (the original title of the series).
