Zurich wine ships are back

Blick: Ms. Schönenberger, what can visitors expect at the Expovina Weinschiff in Zurich this year?
Alina Schonenberger (33):
There would certainly be the opportunity to taste close to 4000 wines on eleven different ships. We also have a new guest ship where our guests can discover Armenian wines. Armenian delicacies such as local pancakes are also offered. Various seminars and masterclasses will be held on our separate club ship, LS Stäfa, such as linking classic collector’s wines with NFT, artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.

Are there innovations based on experiences during the pandemic?
Pascal Schlittler (58):
Yes, we will now offer a variety of catering options not only on board but also at the pier, so you can dine outside in the fresh air as well. We also have a new electronic ticketing system that allows us to restrict ticket sales on a given day if there is a limit on the number of people.

What do they call those who come not to taste but only to drink?
Schoenenberger:
No need to fool ourselves, the wine ship is always a casual social event. Especially with regard to the weekend, it is likely that there will be guests who can not only taste, but also have a glass or two of wine.

And how are visitors who drink a glass or two of too much wine treated?
sled: Our participants have a very good feeling for such situations. They decide whether they want to serve their wine or whether it would be better for a guest to have a drink instead of wine. We want a relaxed atmosphere where our visitors can explore the diversity of the wine world in a pleasant atmosphere.

How important are Swiss wines at Expovina Weinschiff?
Schoenenberger:
A big! About a third of the nearly 4,000 wines come from Switzerland. As far as I know, almost every Swiss wine producing canton is represented here.

How many visitors are you expecting this year?
sled: Before the pandemic, there were between 60,000 and 70,000 guests in the best years. Of course, we would be very happy if we acted in this order of magnitude this year.

What hours and days would you recommend for guests who prefer a quieter environment?
Schoenenberger:
Strictly until 4 pm on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. The market may also be less busy than, for example, Friday or Saturday. Weather also plays an important role: when the weather is good, we have fewer guests than when it is bad.
