The makers of ‘Game Of Thrones’ reveal their favorite deaths in the fantasy series

With ‘3 Body Problem’ on Netflix, ‘Game Of Thrones’ showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss are currently launching their next hit, in which one or the other also dies. But the creators of the series always look back on their time on the HBO cult series – and now spoke on the podcast about which characters they, as screenwriters, preferred to die.

With ‘Game Of Thrones’ with its many deaths you are of course spoiled for choice. But the authors quickly agreed: “Thrones killed off so many of the good guys, and then we finally got to kill off Joffrey in season 4 and Ramsay Bolton in season 6. “It was nice to get back to the old-fashioned satisfaction of taking down a whole bad guy… It felt like you were balancing the scales a bit,” says DB Weiss.

Ramsay’s death scene was particularly satisfying

King Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) dies of poisoned wine in “Game Of Thrones” – Lady Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) later admits to the murder in her own hour of death. As we watched Joffrey die with his face twisted in pain, was the death of the sadistic Ramsay Bolton (Ivan Rheon) not directly shown, but was no less satisfying, because you experienced the moment through the eyes of Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), who was previously tormented by him.

Sansa imprisons Ramsay with his own hungry bloodhounds, who tear him apart. “You don’t really see death. You see a bit of it in the background, but you don’t actually see it die. But what you see is Sophie or Sansa’s smile,” David Benioff recalls.

Seeing that smile was very satisfying for the makers of Game Of Thrones – and the scene had to be perfect. The entire sequence was filmed seven or eight times, Benioff recalls, until it was perfect: “Sophie was so good. When she finished the scene, I felt like I could die happy.
