The Amazon hit show “LOL: Last One Laughing” is known for the fact that the contestants in each season always consist of well-known figures from the entertainment industry. But every now and then there is someone who may not yet have fully entered the mainstream public’s perception. In the recently started fifth season, this probably applies most to Meltem Kaptan.
The German-Turkish woman has been working as a comedian and presenter for several years (for example in the Sat.1 show “The Big Backen” or the ARD cabaret program “Ladies Night”), but has remained somewhat under the radar for a long time Radar. In 2022, the trained actress managed to put an unexpected exclamation point in her career:

BushKaptan was excited like the perfect mother, who fights tirelessly against injustice when her eldest son is arrested and taken to the US military base at Guantanamo. For this she received, among other things, the Silver Bear at the Berlinale, the German Film Prize and the German Acting Prize.
The film itself is a stirring and moving plea for the fact that it is certainly worth it not to lose faith in justice, even in cases that seem particularly hopeless. Haven’t seen “Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush” yet? Then you should use “LOL” as an opportunity to catch up on the cinematic highlight. Unfortunately, it is currently not included in streaming subscriptions. But it can be rented on VoD for little money from providers such as Amazon and of course also for sale on Blu-ray and DVD.
How far does Meltem Kaptan get in Season 5 “LOL”?
The wit and disarming down-to-earthness that Meltem Kaptan displays as Rabiye Kurnaz, along with her performances in comedy formats such as “Night Wash” and “Quatsch Comedy Club,” placed her on our FILMSTARTS wishlist for “LOL.” Candidates for Season 4 are sliding very high. Now our wishes have finally been heard and Meltem Kaptan actually does quite well in the first two new “LOL” episodes, including a crazy painting number (her graphic/painting studies paid off immediately).
The next two weeks will show how far she ultimately gets. Episodes 3 and 4 of the fifth “LOL” season will be released on Amazon Prime Video on April 4, 2024, with the remaining two episodes to follow on April 11.
