Proyecto Uno longs to record with retired Daddy Yankee

An American group of Dominican origin Project onecreator of big hits like ‘Esta Pegao’ or ’25 Horas’, admits that for them it would be “dream” re-records his most popular song, ‘Shark‘, with the recently retired Daddy Yankee.

In an interview for EFE, Nelson Zapataone of the original members of Proyecto Uno, said they intend to remix their biggest hit, which has garnered millions of views since 1993: “there are many artists who write to us and we are ready for anything.”

But singer Gabriel Torres, known artistically as Kid G, who is seated to his right, admits that a collaboration with Puerto Rican Daddy Yankee “would be a dream” even though they know that “he just retired.”

Proyecto Uno celebrates 35 years of an indelible legacy of filling clubs and parties by combining merengue with other styles such as house, R&B, tropical music or hip hopand in the midst of the celebration they also appeared at the festival music, music the most important of ColombiaEstereo picnic in Bogota.

They were the “rumbera” bets on this year’s poster and offered to the Colombian public nostalgia his customers which served as a time capsule during his hour of presentation.

“We want to continue to win more hearts and bring new music new generationto move forward with the privilege of an already respected status, we feel that we have a tradition like that of the Rolling Stones,” explained a nostalgic Zapata, recalling the love with which Colombia receives them whenever they take the stage.

Project key one: Keeping the essence

One of the hallmarks of the New York band is that they say they don’t compete with other genres, “it’s not about creating competence but not to disappear from around the public“, said Paolo Tondo, who before joining Proyecto Uno was part of other bands and wrote Songs for Chayanne.

To do this, they say the key to so many years of activity is to feed constant essence and the flame of fusion meringue live.

“I think that when it’s done well, you’re always there among people, and I think it’s been going very well for us for a long time,” added the singer of the musical trio.

What started with Ricky Echeverria and Pavel de Jesús following Zapata turned interesting revelation in the 90s, and today it is complete with Tonda i Little Mr who have worked together for 14 years and who explained that they would both be part of Proyecto Uno, “such a legendary and classic group“, it was a “blessing”.

They were promoters and pioneers of the spread of the music genre Merenhouse from NY all over the world, and other groups such as Fulanito or King África, among others, were born from their music.

“We are told almost every day that we are an example to follow,” admitted the youngest Torres.

“Fear of diversity”

The sounds of Proyecto Uno have their own identity, so they regret that there are artists whose music “everything sounds the same“, Zapata stated, saying that he believes that “there is a little fear of diversity” and that this is the fault of the record companies.

“I don’t know if it’s guilt record companies They want one sound so everyone has to record the same sound“, said Zapata, who motivated young people to experiment and express what they feel through their music.

‘Shark’, according to Zapata, is “an atypical song” because it lasts longer than 5 minutes.

“Nowadays, if a song lasts longer than 2:45, it gives producers a heart attack,” he said, adding that if it had been released today, it wouldn’t have had such success because the songs, because of their length, “don’t interest me.” give time for ripen and season“.

The hit that revolutionized Latin music in the 90s was released in 1993, but only two years later became number one on Spain and Mexico: “This is how he had the privilege of maturing among his listeners,” he explained.

Without those 5 minutes, they wouldn’t have been able to insert classic sections like “a little more tender” or “with your hand up”, and the three of them laughingly confirm that “otherwise the song would have been “chocolate, chocolate” and that was it. “.
