Big surprise: Scarlett Johansson will play the leading role in the new ‘Jurassic World’.

The “Jurassic World” series cannot be killed. In 2022, ‘Jurassic World 3’ concluded the second trilogy of the dinosaur franchise, which started in 1993 with Steven Spielberg’s ‘Jurassic Park’. A longer break was expected. The speed with which the fourth ‘Jurassic World’ part is getting off the ground is somewhat surprising – as is the possible leading actress.

Each of the three “Jurassic World” films released in theaters since 2015 had grossed at least $1 billion at the box office. The fourth part is now intended as an introduction to a new series that no longer has anything to do with the characters of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who formed the film couple in the last trilogy.

New faces are needed and the first, according to reliable reports, is that of Scarlett Johansson. It would be a coup for the series, as Johansson had effectively distanced himself from blockbuster cinema.

As the well-informed ‘Hollywood Reporter’ reports, she is now in negotiations for a role in the dinosaur blockbuster. It is not yet known which role Scarlett Johansson will take on.

Since Johansson is the first star specifically mentioned in connection with the film, it can be assumed that he has the lead role. It is very likely that the new ensemble of the blockbuster will be built around Johansson.

“Jurassic World 4” would be something like the 39-year-old’s blockbuster comeback. Since leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), she hasn’t starred in a major blockbuster. She was last seen in theaters in Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City.”

“Jurassic World 4” doesn’t have an official title yet and there’s still no rough plot. David Koepp, who wrote the first two ‘Jurassic Park’ films, is also writing the script for the next installment. It is his first involvement with the series in almost 30 years.

Director is Gareth Edwards, who is responsible for visually stunning blockbusters such as “Godzilla” (2014), “Star Wars: Rogue One” (2016) and most recently “The Creator” (2023). Steven Spielberg is a producer.

The US launch date for “Jurassic World 4” is set for July 2, 2025. The date also applies to Switzerland, with a difference of one or two days. If the film wants to meet the deadline, shooting must start soon. Perhaps the most important step has already been taken with the casting of Scarlett Johansson.
