“I don’t miss it”: That’s why “Game Of Thrones” star Lena Headey has finally finished the series

The fantasy epic ‘Game Of Thrones’ enchanted the series world in the 2010s and completely surprised both fans and critics – at least in the early seasons – with its complex world-building and layered characters. This was also thanks to Cersei Lannister, played by Lena Headey, who was always good for intrigue and with her cunning and unscrupulous character kept the tension of the story going throughout the seasons.

Although Headey was honored with numerous nominations for her acting performances and stated several times how much she admired Cersei as a character, the actress was not entirely happy with the end of her series role. Warning: There are spoilers for the ending of “Game Of Thrones”!

Lena Headey wanted a showdown between Cersei and Arya Stark

In the final season of ‘Game Of Thrones’, Cersei Lannister ultimately died alongside Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) attack on King’s Landing. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) later found the bodies of the two siblings and lovers in the rubble – an anti-climatic ending for these two important characters. Lena Headey had also imagined a different outcome for Cerseiwhile she talks revealed:

“I think we’ve all thought about it, because you start writing the storyline yourself in your head. And [Arya-Stark-Darstellerin Maisie Williams] and I’ve fantasized about a showdown between Cersei and Arya. She would be Jaime [verkleidet] can come back. That was our dream. But [die Serien-Schöpfer] other decisions were made.”

Lena Headey’s desired ending for Cersei goes hand in hand with that of many fans, as Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) had the manipulative queen on her kill list for seasons. A showdown between the two would have closed the circle not only for Cersei, but for Arya as well.

However, Lena Headey explained that she could still understand why ‘Game Of Thrones’ masterminds David Benioff and DB Weiss decided differently. After all, at the end of the series they were under enormous pressure due to the high expectations of fans and those involved. This chapter is now closed for the actress, although she misses working with her co-stars:

“No, I don’t miss it. I miss the people – because you fall in love with people and build family bonds with them. It takes some time to process that. There’s a strange way to grieve these relationships. But I don’t miss it. We made this. We have invested everything in it. It changed everyone’s fucking world, and it will forever.”

For this reason, Headey is not watching the prequel series ‘House Of The Dragon’. Seeing a new series set in this universe was simply “too strange” for the Cersei actress. You can currently find all eight seasons of ‘Game Of Thrones’ and the first season of the prequel series ‘House Of The Dragon’ on the streaming program on Sky or WOW.
