For many zombie fans, “Z Nation” is considered one of the more successful attempts to jump on the undead series hype train started by top dog “The Walking Dead.” The production of the infamous ‘Sharknado’ company The Asylum may be messier than the original, but it does have a lot of original, crazy ideas and WTF moments in which, despite a few hopeless moments, fun is paramount (where else? to “ Game Of Thrones” author George RR Martin himself as a zombie?).
It is not without reason that ‘Z Nation’ managed to attract a loyal group of fans over the course of its five seasons with a total of 68 episodes – who were anything but enthusiastic when the responsible American broadcaster Syfy pulled the plug shortly before. the season 5 finale in late 2018. But the last word on “Z Nation” may not have been spoken yet. Because The Asylum revealed on the short messaging service X (formerly Twitter) that a big announcement about the series is coming:
“Z Nation” season 6 or “Black Summer” season 3?
What exactly the announcement was about remained open. But since it’s actually described as “major” (original sound: “major”), it’s fair to assume that the series could get a sequel more than five years after its end. This might give the story about the search for a cure for the zombie pandemic a happy ending after the rather open ending.
So has The Asylum found a new provider for a possible sixth season of “Z Nation”? Or will the zombie story perhaps end with a movie? However, it is also conceivable that the announcement is not about ‘Z Nation’ itself, but rather about the more serious prequel spin-off ‘Black Summer’, which Netflix is said to have quietly and secretly canceled after two seasons. The fact that the X-Post explicitly talks about ‘Z Nation’ (including a matching photo) suggests that it will actually be about the main series.
So fans can have new hope that “Z Nation” will continue in some form after all this time. In the meantime, the universe of “The Walking Dead” is being diligently expanded with new series. Rick’s comeback series “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” is currently running, with new episodes every Monday (here on Magenta TV). FILMSTARTS YouTube moderator Sebastian, who discovered the series a little late, reveals what “Z Nation” has in store for “The Walking Dead” in the following video:
