You’re not the only one who admires ‘Apocalypse Now’, so does the director of ‘Dune’ Dennis Villeneuve considers the feverish jungle trek one of his absolute favorite films: As the cinephile social network When recently asked about his five all-time favorites, he named it second only to “2001: A Space Odyssey” and called it “the movie I’ve seen the most times in my life.” I love him.” (You can read about the other three screen works that complete his list here.)
In fact, Villeneuve loves it so much that he insisted on paying tribute to the landmark war film in one of his own films. More precisely: in the first part of his “Dune“-amendmentwhose long-awaited sequel has just opened in German cinemas.
At 20 minutes and 10 seconds you will find a scene where Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (played by Stellan Skarsgård) runs his hand over his shaved head while tilting his head. Later in the film we see another close-up of the Baron, where he emerges from the bathwater and turns his head to the right. Both images can be found exactly the same in “Apocalypse Now”.only here it is Colonel Walter E. Kurtz, played by Marlon Brando, who puts his hand on his bald head – and main character Captain Willard (Martin Sheen), who rises from the water.
