To play the badass action hero on the big screen, Sylvester Stallone (“Rambo”) had to endure a lot of pain in real life. The fallout from filming “The Expendables,” which was released in 2010, continues to weigh on Stallone today, as he explains in the first episode of the second season of the reality TV show “The Family Stallone ‘, which you can currently stream. on Paramount+.
Here we see Sylvester Stallone preparing for his seventh back surgery. The starting point for this was a stunt in ‘The Expendables’ where Steve Austin’s ‘Rocky’ star was thrown through a wall. Stallone dislocated his shoulder and broke his neck. Reason enough for the action star to make it clear once again, full of remorse, that the stunts should be left to people who are professionally trained for it:
“I never recovered from it. After ‘The Expendables’ I wasn’t physically the same anymore. That’s why I warn you: don’t do your own stunts!”
Sly’s family suffers with him
In the opening episode of the second season of ‘The Family Stallone’, Sly’s loved ones also talk about what it feels like to have to go under the knife again and again. Jennifer Flavin, Stallone’s wife of more than 20 years, explains: “It’s very scary for our family every time he has to have surgery because you never know…”
Stallone’s daughter Scarlet also speaks and illustrates that her father was in constant pain throughout her childhood: “It’s really hard to watch my father undergo another painful operation. He was in pain throughout my childhood. He did everything he could to push through the pain and be present, but I just couldn’t imagine being in pain every waking moment.”
