While the fifth season of ‘Virgin River’ will reach us on Netflix in the fall of 2023, fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel of the romantic drama series about the touching love story between Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) in the idyllic town of Virgin River. Even though we still have to wait a while until we can actually expect new episodes on the streaming service, there are now two good news items.
On the one hand, production on the 6th season finally began on February 22, 2024. How reported, that was not all: ‘Virgin River’ will soon get its own prequel series – building on the recent events of the Season 5 finale.
The ‘Virgin River’ prequel series about Mel’s parents is coming soon
In season 5, Mel learned that her late mother Sarah also once dated a resident of the small Northern California town. In the season finale and Christmas special, we found out that the man named Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson) is Mel’s biological father. While the story will pick up in the sixth season and we will learn more from Everett about the two’s romance, the prequel series will focus entirely on the backstory of Sarah and Mel’s father.
The prequel series will also be written by “Virgin River” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith. Actors are currently being cast in the roles of young Sarah and Everett, who will make guest appearances in the series’ sixth season. If these prove to be a success, the two stars should also star in the prequel series.
It is not yet known when the sixth season of ‘Virgin River’ will start on Netflix. It is also unclear when we can expect the prequel series on the streaming service.
