We won’t see any more of “The Mandalorian” universe for a while, but this year two brand new “Star Wars” live-action series are launching on Disney+ and they couldn’t be more different in tone. The dark mystery thriller series ‘The Acolyte’ is about intrigue and power struggles between the Jedi and the Sith, while in ‘Skeleton Crew’ we can expect a fast-paced adventure with child stars in the style of ‘The Goonies’.
“Star Wars: The Acolyte” is the first of two series coming to Disney+. And while it has been clear for some time that this will happen in the summer of 2024, the newspaper reports now only about the specific date, which has not yet been officially confirmed. Accordingly, “The Acolyte” will release on Disney+ on June 5, 2024.
The new episodes are currently showing there animated series “The bad batch“. According to the release schedule, the last of the 15 episodes of season 3, which is also the final episode, will air on May 1. After that, “Star Wars” fans would just have to wait a month for stock to become available again.
“The Acolyte”: This has never happened before in “Star Wars”.
“The Acolyte” will break new ground because The live-action ‘Star Wars’ timeline has never gone back this far. Showrunner Leslye Headland’s series, the first trailer of which was shown a year ago at the Star Wars Celebration, but is not yet online, is set at the time of the High Republic. Right now, the Jedi are at the height of their power. That’s why we’re seeing more Jedi than ever before in a Star Wars film or series.
The Sith, on the other hand, are hiding underground, and it is precisely in this field of tension that the new series, which is described as a mysterious thriller, will take place. As the Sith attempt to infiltrate the Jedi, a young Jedi (Amandla Stenberg) teams up with her former master (Jung-jae Lee from “Squid Game”) to investigate a series of crimes. They discover that dark forces are at work.
Double role for Amanda Stenberg?
According to insider reports, The Hate U Give star Amandla Stenberg will play a dual role and all represent not only a Jedi, but also her twin sister, who belongs to the Sith. That would explain why there have been conflicting messages and also puzzling scenes in the trailer that sometimes place her character on the light side of power and sometimes on the dark side. So maybe in reality both will be the case.
The heroine “Matrix” is also there Carrie Anne Mosswho put on an impressive martial arts fight in the trailer – this is also something unprecedented in the “Star Wars” universe. Because instead of lightsaber combat, hand-to-hand combat is also used here, which is probably a specialty of the Jedi master played by Moss.
“Get Out” Composer Contributes Score
Also reported In his report on the possible start date, he further revealed who had been hired as composer for the series: Michael Abels (“Nope”, “Get Out”) will contribute the music to “The Acolyte”.
Other actors on board for the High Repblic series include Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman and Margarita Levieva.
After ‘The Acolyte’, ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ will be released Judas Law will start in one of the leading roles towards the end of the year. We’re expecting a release in November or December 2024. However, “Andor” fans will be left empty-handed this year – the second season of showrunner Tony Gilroy’s critically acclaimed series has been delayed until 2025.
