When ‘The Rookie’ premiered in the US in 2018, the crime series was barely on the radar in this country, despite starring popular ‘Castle’ and ‘Firefly’ star Nathan Fillion. But that has clearly changed over the years. Thanks in no small part to its wider availability, the story about John Nolan (Fillion), the oldest police newcomer in the history of the LAPD, became increasingly popular in Germany as the seasons progressed.
And this now has the positive side effect that the final season of the TV hit is now making its way to the series premiere even faster than ever before, just five months after season 5 ended there: Starting today, February 21, 2024 – and for the first time in parallel with the American launch – the sixth season of “The Rookie” is exclusively accessible via the WOW streaming service (where the first five seasons are still available to watch).
Given this early premiere, the episodes will be released on Wednesdays initially in the English original. From March 6 it will be available with German subtitles and from May 1, Nolan and his team’s most recent missions can also be seen in the German-language version on Sky One and WOW.
Only 10 episodes, but they’re heavy
A small damper in the sixth ‘Rookie’ season: due to the double strike in Hollywood last year, the ten-episode season will be the shortest in the series’ history to date. But there is also something good about that: as showrunner Alexi Hawley said in an interview with the website explained, the new season will be told serially due to the shortening. This means there is a stronger overarching plot that is more strictly followed. And that’s only good news considering the exciting developments at the end of season five.
It was here a mysterious new villain (played by “Orphan Black” star Kristian Bruun) turns out to be a criminal mastermind with an army of masked mercenaries who keep Los Angeles in suspense and mainly focus on Nolan’s unit. What is behind that and what exactly is his plan? In any case, the course is set for a compelling cat-and-mouse game full of twists and dangers. First and foremost, fans will be curious to see if Aaron (Tru Valentino), who was shot by the same villains, will survive his serious injuries.
100th episode with a big wedding
But despite the concentrated drama in Season 6, “The Rookie” fans won’t miss any big character moments with the characters they love. Nolan and Firefighter Bailey’s Wedding (Jenna Dewan), which awaits us in episode 2, also the 100th episode in total. In line with this anniversary, the main goal here is to celebrate the series and its characters in an extra-long episode. The still fresh relationship between Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim (Eric Winter) also becomes an issue – with the return of Tim’s ex-wife and Lucy’s aspirations to become an undercover detective herself, but soon put to the test in a harsh way. stated.
So there will probably be no boredom in the sixth season of “The Rookie”. It is not yet clear whether the series will continue afterwards and whether a seventh season will consist of more episodes. Given the continued success of the series, further expansion is considered highly likely.
