‘Madame Web’ takes ‘female intuition’ to another level

Movie ‘Madame Web’from the universe of Spider-Man, from Sony Pictures, raises “female intuition” to a higher level through scenes that were partly shot in Mexico, as its director, SJ Clarkson, pointed out this Thursday in an interview with EFE in the Mexican capital.

Film in production Columbia Pictures and which debuts this week in Mexican cinemas, tells the story of how Cassandra Webb, a doctor’s assistant played by Dakota Johnson, discovers that she may have the mental power to predict the future.

He’ll have to be careful Julia Carpenter (Sydney Sweeney), Mattie Franklin (Celeste O’Connor) and Anya Corazón (Isabela Merced), who will become Spider-Woman, and together they accept the challenge of building a promising future.

But first they have to deal with the present and the problems caused by Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim), the film’s villain.

“All women have intuition, and we (Webb’s) clairvoyance take it to a higher level,” said the director, who is making her debut in the world of feature films with this film.

He emphasized the “connection with reality” that this ability and assured that it’s “exciting” to explore a “more cerebral and psychological” superpower through a fantasy plot.

Johnson, also in an interview for EFE, shared the director’s point of view, pointing out that one of the main reasons for accepting the role was the character of the three protagonists, who are intertwined by a strong sisterhood, a sisterhood between women.

“Women who genuinely support and protect each other, who want everyone to be the most powerful version of themselves, and who guide each other to achieve that,” said the actress, who lamented that it’s a dynamic “that you don’t see very often” on screen.

During the red carpet of the film in Mexico City, Johnsonrecognized for her leading role in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, days before that she explained that it was “very important” for her to participate in projects dealing with these topics, such as women’s empowerment.

Chiapas, setting for ‘Madame Web’

Mexico plays an important role in the production of ‘Madame Web’, as some of its scenes were filmed in Palenque, in the southern state of Chiapas, in an “incredible” experience although not without difficulties, according to Clarkson.

“We had a big storm the night before we started filming and the whole set was destroyed,” he said.

However, thanks to the “extraordinary crew” of the film, they restored the sets in time.

He cinematographic panorama Mexican also has its space in ‘Madame Web’, Well, the actor José María Yazpik has a relevant role: his character, Santiago, has to help the protagonists during their life process.

A different Madame Web

On the other hand, Johnson explained that the film is different from the historical Madame Web from the comics of the eighties, as this new part of the Spider-Man imaginary explains the origins of the superheroine.

While in the illustrated vignettes Madame Web is a blind old woman who lives in a wheelchair, the character played by Johnson is a young woman in the early 21st century who has just discovered her clairvoyance.

“We met her (in the film) before her powers took effect,” he said.

Thus he managed to build a “complex human being” that allows us to understand comic book superhero and their abilities that will be used in the future to decipher the future of Spider-Man and the superheroes of this imaginary.
