In December 2023, ‘Percy Jackson’ fans were finally blessed with the long-awaited series adaptation of Rick Riordan’s best-selling novel series, after the two early 2010 film adaptations starring Logan Lerman were both fans of the young demigod, as well as the novelist himself, only partially convincing. With ‘Percy Jackson: The Series’ we were treated to eight episodes on Disney+ in recent weeks, giving the material a new coat of paint and ending the season with an emotional finale on January 30.
While the season’s story is self-contained at first glance, the finale inevitably leaves fans wondering if fans are expecting any more adventures from Walker Scobell’s Percy and his friends Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri). The novel series by Rick Riordan, who also serves as executive producer and creator of the fantasy series, includes six books so far – and of those, only the first copy served as the basis for the opening season. So, theoretically, there could be many more stories to be told about the young demigod – but what are the chances that they will actually come to pass?
Season 2 hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but fans can hope
In fact, a second season of “Percy Jackson: The Series” has not yet been officially confirmed. However, the fantasy series started off as a huge success on Disney+, attracting around 13.3 million people to their screens with the first episode within the first six days. The series left behind many other Disney-branded television products and also received a number of positive reviews. This is one of the things holding the series back a current score of 73 out of 100 points.
The “Percy Jackson” team has already made it clear that they are interested in continuing the series for further seasons. Showrunner Jonathan E. Steinberg, among others, explained this in an interview with that the chance of this happening is not that bad: “When I read in the newspaper how the series is being received and how it is going, it seems as if it will continue.” The plan for a sequel would be to work on one book from Riordan’s novel series per season.
This could continue into season 2
The second novel in the “Percy Jackson” series by Rick Riordan is called “Under the Spell of the Cyclops” in the German translation and would therefore probably serve as the basis for a new season. After solving the mystery of the Master Lightning, freeing his mother and also meeting his father Poseidon in the first season, Percy returns to everyday life.
The peace does not last long, however, as in the second novel Grover is captured by the Cyclops Polyphen. Together with Annabeth and his half-brother Tyson He goes looking for his friend and ends up in the Bermuda Trianglewhich is teeming with sea monsters – and also houses the headquarters of the villain Kronos, who is gaining more and more power…
However, Walker Scobell isn’t entirely thrilled about the prospect of making new episodes based on the story of ‘The Spell of the Cyclops,’ as he said in an interview with revealed. This obviously has less to do with him not wanting to return as Percy Jackson, but rather what is expected to be a strenuous shoot for him, which would include a lot of underwater shots:
