Orchids are the ideal eye-catcher of every home with their showy flowers.
Vanessa Buchel

There is not a single orchid, but thousands of species with flowers of all shapes and colors. Its tall, slender form and elegant shape, as well as its reduced number of leaves, make it a popular houseplant in every home. Exotic beauty has some requirements: If these needs are met, you will have a beautiful flower that can live up to 20 years in your indoor garden.

The best place for orchids

The place for the orchid should be as bright as possible. Ideally near a window. If this is not possible at home, you should consider using a special plant light that you can buy from hardware stores. To prevent the flower from dropping its flowers prematurely, you should avoid strong temperature fluctuations caused by drafts.

How to transplant orchids correctly?

If the plant has been moved to your office or home, you can leave it in its pot initially. After about two to three years the orchid often becomes very cramped in the pot. For the new container, you should look for a transparent container that is about two centimeters larger in circumference. It is important that the drainage holes for irrigation water are large enough. You can extend this yourself if necessary.

Another selection criterion is that there should be a protrusion at the bottom that prevents the plant from standing in water. Orchids cannot tolerate waterlogging at all. You should also choose the planting substrate accordingly. In no case should you use regular potting soil. The plant base should be very permeable to air and loose enough that the roots do not get wet. Mineral fertilizers in the substrate help the development of the plant. Before planting an orchid, you should cut off the dead root parts so that the plant gains new strength.

Tips for optimum care

Orchid care requires less effort than you think. There are various theories regarding casting. Some people prefer to bathe in soft water weekly. Some say some water is enough. Most importantly, never flood the plant or allow it to dry out. To achieve this balancing process, sprinkle the orchid’s leaves with lime-free water every day. The plant will be happy if you sometimes remove the dust with a damp cloth. Some of the fertilizer encourages new flowers to appear in spring.

Once all the flowers have faded, give your orchid a rest and cut the branches only when they are completely dry. Flowers should also always be allowed to fall on their own. As the orchid gets older, it will thank you with more beautiful flowers.
