After the grand finale of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” (note, we reveal who Sauron is in this text!), all fans are excited to see what happens next. We’ll probably have to wait two years for new episodes as we don’t expect season 2 to start before 2024. And much of what the next season will be about is already clear: Halbrand aka Sauron (Charlie Vickers) has changed heading for Mordor, the unnamed wizard (Daniel Weyman) to the east. We will probably continue to follow you. But what about the dwarves, for example?
An update on the potential casting of a new cast member for Season 2 opens up a very exciting possibility for a new Dwarven storyline that would make perfect sense in the Second Age and make a great connection to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Presumably it should Jamie Bisping play a character named Viran…
Why we say “possible casting”: Spotlight casting agency has signed a role named Viran in The Rings of Power on the side of Jamie Bisping. After this message was picked up on Twitter, for example by , but this post has been removed again – the information probably shouldn’t have appeared yet, such subsequent removals from biographies are more common if one was too hasty. But of course we also have to take false information into account. We made a screenshot for you:
But if the casting is right, which we think is very possible, the question now arises: is there a character named Viran in Tolkien? No, there isn’t, but there is an important character named Narvi. And since “coderol names” are often used upfront, “Viran” could very well stand for “Narvi”, which is made up of the same letters.
And we wouldn’t be surprised if we actually see the dwarf Narvi in season 2: because he is a very good friend of Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards). And given the friendship between Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Durin (Owain Arthur) in Season 1, this could be the next opportunity to bring Elves and Dwarves back together.
The western gate of Moria
But not only the friendship is interesting, but also what comes of it: Narvi and Celebrimbor work together on a gateway to Khazad-dûm or Moria in the Second Age, which we know very well from the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy: The Doors of Durin, also known as the West Gate of Moria. This is the gate to which Gandalf and Co. in “The Fellowship of the Ring” and must first solve the riddle to get in.
This door was built by Stonemason Narvi and Celebrimbor drew the script on it. In Elves it says, “The doors of Durin, the lord of Moria. Speak, friend, and enter.” The solution of the riddle: You have to say the word “friend” in Elves, which is “Mellon”, and the gate will open.
Seeing the origin story of this gate in the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power would be a great fit. You can read more about what we can expect in the coming season here:
