Putting together a sitcom like ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is an achievement that should not be underestimated: a maximum of 25 episodes per season must be ready within a few months so that they can be broadcast on time. The schedule is therefore very tight and interruptions are not welcome. But in the sixth season it almost came to that: the mistake was a joke that went wrong Kaley Cuoco Luckily he escaped with a black eye…
During a panel at Comic Con, Cuoco revealed that an accident occurred during the filming of Season 6 Episode 16 (“The Romance Ninja”) (via ). The episode revolves around a Valentine’s Day dinner that goes completely out of control: Penny (Cuoco), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) want to celebrate the day of love at a carefree restaurant, when Penny recognizes one of her ex-boyfriends and gets into a bad mood. Leonard also misbehaves, and the romantic dinner slowly turns into a total disaster…
Kaley Cuoco: “You know it from boxer movies”
For the so-called bloopers in the end credits of the episode, a kind of encore was filmed, in which the arguments between Penny and Leonard completely escalated. Galecki pretends to punch Cuoco, causing her to fall back off the chair. But the fake fall turned into something serious as the chair hit the Penny actress on the forehead with full force!
“I was lying on the floor and I thought, ‘It’s nothing special, just a little bruise,’ so I just kept playing,” the 38-year-old recalled at Comic Con. “[…] Finally we end it, I stand up and say, ‘How do I look?’ And all I see is Simon’s head [Helberg] and my blood flowed over me! Because for some reason the eyebrow bone always bleeds a lot, you see that in boxer films.”
The actress went straight to the studio’s medical department, where her wound was stitched up – luckily the injury looked worse than it actually was. There was brief discussion of a break in filming, but Cuoco decided to continue filming the next day. However, in the subsequent scenes, she was only filmed from the side to hide the wound – and according to Cuoco, there was a total ban on these types of risqué pranks after the incident!
