When “Daredevil: Born Again” was announced in 2022, despite the return of lead duo Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/Kingpin), it was unclear how much the MCU project would succeed . similar to what was once on Netflix, will be a sequel to the ongoing ‘Daredevil’ series. The fact is, while there were small allusions to the larger MCU in “Daredevil,” the series was completely ignored by the films in the Marvel Universe for a long time – and thus its membership in the MCU was quite questioned.
But little by little, things are deteriorating in this area. The first impulses in this direction came with the comeback of Cox and D’Onofrio in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Hawkeye”, respectively. The characters were then officially accepted into the MCU, although the question remained whether they were actually the same incarnations from back then or possibly variants from a parallel world (further appearances in “She-Hulk” and “Echo” did not clarify this).
Wilson Bethel returns as Bullseye
But now it actually looks like the former ‘Daredevil’ will be declared part of the MCU canon after all. Not only did the series (alongside the other “Defenders” titles like “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher”) recently find itself among the titles in the chronological MCU order on Disney+ (where the series moved after it left Netflix). ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is also becoming a real ‘Daredevil’ sequel thanks to more and more familiar faces. The latest returnee now revealed should finally turn the series into something like a fourth “Daredevil” season.
Like the website has experienced, will appear in three episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again.” Wilson Bethel returns as psychopathic FBI agent Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, aka Bullseye. He was already involved in the third season of “Daredevil”, at the end of which he was positioned as the main villain for a potential fourth season – which never subsequently appeared. Now he gets the chance to appear in real life as the iconic Daredevil antagonist and master shooter Bullseye.
However, Wilson Fisk will once again serve as the central antagonist, likely putting into practice the New York mayoral ambitions made clear at the end of “Echo” in “Born Again.”
Just a few days ago, it was also announced that Matt Murdock’s two best friends Karen Page and Foggy, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, would also return for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, after initially saying the series would likely be released. to do without them. There will also be a reunion with Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka Punisher.
But a continuation of the old ‘Daredevil’ series?
Overall, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ now seems to be going in a different direction than originally planned. Instead of some kind of soft reboot, it is now apparently more directly linked to the popular Netflix predecessor series. It was probably also for this purpose that the material recorded up to that point was discarded in the fall of 2023 and the project underwent another general overhaul – including a new creative team behind the scenes. Dario Scardapane, who was already involved in the series ‘The Punisher’, is now primarily responsible for the format.
“Daredevil: Born Again“will then arrive on Disney+ as part of the fifth MCU phase in 2025.
