The sci-fi cult series has never gone back this far: Noah Hawley’s as-yet-untitled “Alien” prequel series will be set on Earth some 70 years in the future – that is, before all previous “Alien” films hit theaters. The exact plot of the series is still being kept under wraps, but showrunner Hawley has now answered a big question on the minds of ‘Alien’ fans: How will the series with those in “Prometheus” And “Covenantdeal with the introduced innovations?
We remember: In Ridley Scott’s two prequel films, a controversial statement was made The origins of the deadly aliens are explained: they were once developed as a bioweapon by the mysterious alien race The Engineers. A backstory that doesn’t appeal to everyone, not even Noah Hawley. In an interview with He explained that he would not include this approach to “Prometheus” and “Covenant” in his series.
Aliens remain a product of evolution
Hawley also spoke to Ridley Scott about this, as well as “many, many [andere] Elements of the series”. The innovations simply didn’t fit with Hawley’s idea of the ‘Alien’ universe: “For me and for many other people, this ‘perfect life form’ – as described in the first film – is the product of millions of years of evolution, who created these creatures that could have existed in space for millions of years. “The idea that they are a bioweapon that was created half an hour ago is something that doesn’t naturally appeal to me.”
Retro-futurism instead of modern technology
When it comes to the look of his film, he also wants to ignore Ridley Scott’s prequel films and rely entirely on the design of the originals. “What makes these monsters even more terrifying in terms of mythology is that if you look at the first two films, they have this retro-futuristic technology in them. You have these giant computer screens, these strange keyboards… You have to decide. Do I want to do it this way?”
In the theatrical prequels, Ridley Scott used technology thousands of years more advanced than that in the original series – even though it was set in the future. “There’s something that doesn’t really make sense to me,” Hawley said. “I prefer the retro-futurism of the first two films, so that’s the choice I made: there are no holograms.”
When is the ‘Alien’ series coming?
Noah Hawley’s Alien series will soon resume filming after a strike-related hiatus. Sydney Chandler (“Don’t Worry Darling”) stars as the hybrid metabeing Wendy, who has the consciousness of a child and the body of an adult. Timothy Olyphant (“The Mandalorian”) takes on the role of Wendy’s mentor Kirsh. We expect the ‘Alien’ series to launch in early 2025, and Disney+ will likely be the home for streaming.
