Jason Statham fights his way to the top of the German cinema charts – but in the US a cult remake dominates

The beekeeper” of Jason Statham in the leading role has reached the top of the German cinema charts. Nearly 180,000 tickets were sold during the opening weekend, enough for first place. Second place goes to the vibrant animated adventure ‘Out of the Pond’, which attracted another 165,000 viewers.

Germany: “Wonka” with Timothee Chalamet reaches the next million

“Wonka,” a film released in early December, is number 3 in the German cinema charts. This week the magical chocolate musical even managed to reach the following milestone: More than 2 million viewers watched the colorful fun Timothy Chalamet already viewed in its entirety. This milestone was overtaken by the 142,000 tickets sold this weekend.

By the way, chart positions 4 & 5 are followed by the DC blockbuster “Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom” (107,500 visitors) and the Ghibli adventure “The Boy and the Heron” (92,500 visitors).

US: A remake of a cult film dominates

A different picture emerges in the United States. Especially because a film has already been released here that has yet to be released in Germany: “Mean Girls – The Girls Club”. The musical remake of the 2024 cult film ‘Girls Club – Beware of Biting’ grossed no less than $31.5 million. “Mean Girls – The Girls Club” opens in this country on January 25 – and you should definitely buy a ticket!

In the official FILMSTARTS review, “Mean Girls” received a solid 4 out of 5 possible stars. In his conclusion, our author Sidney Schering writes: “The claws are clipped, but the coat shines more than ever! ‘Mean Girls – The Girls Club’ is the more optimistic, but no less sonorous and varied remix of the caustic teen cult hit from 2004.”
