When you think of Hugh Jackman, the first thing that comes to mind is his starring role as Wolverine in “X-Men” and three solo films, which he will soon reprise for “Deadpool 3.” The 55-year-old has proven that he is also an excellent singer and dancer in the likes of ‘Les Misérables’, ‘Greatest Showman’ and the opening ceremony of the 2009 Oscars. But can you imagine Jackman as a masked killer in a slasher- movie?
The Australian has never starred in a pure horror film in his entire career. And yet it was so a slasher icon who made Jackman want to become an actor in the first place: Jason Voorhees from the “Friday the 13th.“-Queue, who, from part 2 onwards, murdered a number of teenagers in a holiday camp (in the opening film his mother, as we know, still wielded the knife), later sent into space (“Jason .Jason”).
Because the role of Jason mainly requires a physical presence, his face is hidden behind a hockey mask and he rarely if ever has to recite lines of dialogue, the slasher has in the past mainly been played by full-time stuntmen – which makes it all a highlight. what’s stranger is that “Friday The 13th franchise would have served as the initial spark for an Oscar-nominated mime like Hugh Jackman.
But in the documentary “Crystal Lake Memories,” which chronicles the history of the series that began in 1980, Kevin Spirtas — who stars in the seventh installment and once replaced Jackman in the Broadway musical “The Boy From Oz” — opens up that the “Real Steel” star dreamed of playing Jason as a child.
And that’s not all: the documentary includes footage of a cameraman asking the actor about the truth of Spirtas’ statement — to which Jackman responds with a smile, “Oh man, you did some good research!”
The actual trajectory of his career has probably far exceeded his childhood dreams – these days it’s unlikely we’ll see Jackman as Jason Voorhees in a “Friday the 13th” reboot…
