After spending the last few years filming mostly high-budget blockbusters — including several “Fast & Furious” episodes and the two “Meg” feeds — Jason Statham finally returns to his roots with “The Beekeeper”: the result is this a straightforward B-movie thriller that has really earned its FSK 18 rating (The detailed FILMSTARTS review of the film will be published tonight at 8pm, when the embargo period ends).
And the main character behind the camera is certainly not a child of sadness – ‘Suicide Squad’ director David Ayer has also delivered damn strong stuff, especially with the FSK-18 stick ‘Sabotage’: Arnold Schwarzenegger has never been more brutal or profound ! A simple revenge plot like in “The Beekeeper” seems tailor-made for the first collaboration between the duo Statham/Ayer…
That’s what “The Beekeeper” is about
Adam Clay (Jason Statham) is really only interested in his bees. People, on the other hand, can largely remain stolen from him – he only occasionally interacts with his good-natured neighbor Mrs. Parker (Phylicia Rashad) to give her a jar of honey. But then the elderly person is scammed by online scammers and Adam begins a revenge campaign, mowing down those responsible by the dozens.
What the criminals around rich boy Derek Danforth (Josh Hutcherson) did not expect: Adam is not only actually a beekeeper, but was once also a member of the so-called Beekeepers – an organization dedicated to helping people who abuse the help due to them, and if necessary (with much) bloodshed. So said a more organized version of the A-Team – only here the violence is not only applied with a wink, but also in FSK-18 style if necessary…
Evidently The collaboration between Jason Statham and David Ayer was so good that they are going to make another film together – this time based on a script by none other than Statham’s “Expendables” buddy Sylvester Stallone. In “Levon’s Trade,” as in “The Beekeeper,” The Stath plays a man who in his dark past has acquired skills that are just right for him now: Levon Cade wants to build a new life for himself and his daughter as a construction worker . But when his boss’s daughter is kidnapped, he must take on a ruthless underground organization, for better or for worse…
But until that happens, the first step is to take revenge on the Internet fraudsters ‘The Beekeeper’ in German cinemas from January 11, 2024.
