Ambilight TV for the lowest price on Amazon: the Philips OLED808 is the perfect television for home cinema and gaming

With Samsung, LG and Sony you have to decide: do you prefer the HDR format HDR10+ or the competing Dolby Vision? Philips makes the decision for you, because… Philips OLED808 supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision and also scores with many other features.

The 65-inch version (165 centimeters) of the Philips OLED808 is currently available on Amazon for only 1,699 euros available. The model in this size has never been so cheap. Prime customers also save on shipping costs.

Philips OLED808: just as good as the competition from LG and Co.?

The highlight of the Philips OLED808 is the display, which comes from LG and offers corresponding image quality. More precisely, it is one OLED-EX panel with a new type of phosphor, which works more efficiently and thus reduces power consumption. The peak brightness is high and strongly brings out HDR effects.

The automatic brightness control is also very successful. In addition, the Philips television distinguishes itself from the competition by supporting both HDR formats HDR10+ and Dolby Vision away. One of the highlights is of course the three-sided Ambilight. The OLED808 only tends to have artifacts when it comes to motion smoothing, but this is only noticeable in a direct comparison with the competition.

In addition to home cinema enthusiasts, gamers will also fully enjoy the Philips TV in the true sense of the word. 120Hz and VRR ensure smooth gaming and a very low input lag of only seven (!) milliseconds. Thanks to ALLM, the television automatically switches to game mode when you turn on the console. And if you have an Xbox Series X, you can enjoy Dolby Vision gaming for even more brilliance.

The OLED808 uses Google TV as its operating system, while its predecessors used Android TV. So that’s it all common and also more exotic streaming apps Compatible with Philips TV. The biggest criticism of the OLED808 are some missing features for anyone who likes to watch linear television programs: in addition to the missing TV twin tuner, there is no longer any time shift or USB recording, making time shift television only possible through detours.

QLED TV from Samsung: the affordable OLED alternative

If you can do without an OLED display, it’s worth taking a look Samsung Q70C with QLED panel. Currently you can get the 55 inch version (139 centimeters) on Amazon for 750.68 euros.

The Q70C also scores with many gaming features, including low input lag (eight milliseconds) and a 120 Hz display, which offers high peak clarity and excellent tone mapping. In contrast to the Philips TV, time-shifted television is possible without any problems. However, the Q70C only supports HDR10+ and not Dolby Vision as an HDR format.
