‘I did what I had to do’: Jim Parsons responds to criticism from his colleagues that he quit ‘The Big Bang Theory’

More than three years ago, the successful sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’ came to an end. Although the series remained very successful, the finale had to come earlier than expected because Jim Parsons refused to renew his contract. Ultimately because he no longer wanted to continue playing Sheldon Cooper. In fact, everything indicated that his co-stars received the surprising news well at the time. But as announced, everything behind the scenes was much less harmonious…

In the book “The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story Of The Epic Hit Series” it has now been revealed that Johnny Galecki, who played Leonard in the series, was very disappointed with Parsons’ decision. In addition, an unexpected conflict arose between Kaley Cuoco and the Sheldon Cooper actor. Executive producer Steve Holland recalls that Cuoco refused to make eye contact with Parsons during rehearsal. To ensure that the series did not suffer, the dispute was quickly put aside.

Jim Parsons was surprised by the response

In an interview with Parsons himself commented on the decision not to renew his contract: “It’s never nice to hear that you did something that made someone angry or sad. But I did what I had to do and it was the best way to deal with it. To be honest, we weren’t the kind of group where I felt the need to have a group meeting beforehand.”

Parsons also admits in the interview that he was quite surprised by the reactions of his colleagues. He also explained that part of him would have been happy if The Big Bang Theory had been able to continue without him. But the matter did not arise. But even if the ending came with some setbacks, the sitcom certainly made TV history. And everyone involved can pat themselves on the back for that.
