After 2.5 years of waiting for season 3, the popular action series is canceled – will Netflix come to the rescue?

Fans of the action-drama series “Warrior” are not having an easy time. After the first two seasons, they were well received (on the review collection site ‘Warrior’ has 93 percent positive reviews and a viewing figure of 96 percent), it remained unclear for a long time whether there would be a third season at all, not least because the responsible American broadcaster Cinemax generally said goodbye to in-house productions from that time.

In April 2021, the signal was given: a third season of ‘Warrior’ has been given the green light and will then move to the young streaming service HBO Max (later just Max). Nevertheless, another two years would pass before the sequel actually saw the light of day in the streaming world. Probably too long for enough people to watch again.

In any case, Max is apparently not satisfied enough with the viewing figures to stay with the series: “Warrior” is being canceled early after its third season, which ended in the summer. American trade publications report this unanimously.

Last hope Netflix?

Yet there is still a small glimmer of hope. At least in the US, Netflix has secured streaming rights for ‘Warrior’ and is expected to add the first three seasons to its portfolio in February 2024. If the series generated more attention on Netflix, there would be a lot of concern There is probably a possibility that the provider will completely take over the format and produce another season. However, such a revival is complicated by the fact that the cast around lead actor Andrew Koji (“Gangs Of London”) has already been released from their contracts. So it had to be negotiated again first.

It remains to be seen whether the series will also make its way to Netflix in Germany. In this country, the premiere has so far taken place on the pay channel Sky and its associated streaming service WOW, where season 3 was also shown this year. However, only the first two seasons can currently be found on the platform.

Created by Bruce Lee: This is “Warrior”

“Warrior” has not only enjoyed great popularity among many martial arts fans in recent years, but also has a very special story about the origins of martial arts. The series is based on an idea that martial arts legend Bruce Lee had back in the 1970s. The series was then produced by Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee and “Fast & Furious” director Justin Lin, among others.

The focus is on martial artist Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), who travels from China to San Francisco in the late 19th century and fights for a place in one of Chinatown’s most powerful criminal clans.
