An adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s fantasy saga ‘Children Of Blood And Bone’ has been in the works since 2017, although the first novel in the series hadn’t even been published yet. This shows how great Hollywood’s interest is in filming the trilogy, of which two books are now on the market. Accordingly, the studios also fought over the material, with Netflix, Amazon and Co. were lost – Paramount received the contract partly because the studio guaranteed the author a theatrical release. But then the project went quiet again – until now!

Prince-Bythewood recently directed the science fiction actioner “The Old Guard” with Charlize Theron for Netflix and the warrior spectacle “The Woman King” with Viola Davis for the cinema. Gina Prince-Bythewood will not only direct but also revise the script for “Children Of Blood And Bone”. Novelist Tomi Adeyemi himself submitted the first draft of the script, who is also an executive producer.
Adeyemi’s “Legacy Of Orisha” trilogy, as the series as a whole is called, has so far been released in two parts: “Children Of Blood And Bone: Golden Wrath” and “Children Of Virtue And Vengeance: Flaming Shadows”. The final part entitled “Children Of Anguish And Anarchy” is scheduled for release in the summer of 2024. Part 1 will be filmed first, but if successful the entire series could be made.
According to Tomi Adeyemi, the inspiration for ‘Children Of Blood And Bone’ included the ‘Harry Potter’ series, which inspired her to want to create an equally inclusive, magical world.

In the series, for which the author was inspired not only by ‘Harry Potter’, but also by the Black Lives Matter movement and West African culture, is about the young Zélie Adebola, who lives in a land called Orïsha, where magic reigns. But the power-hungry king has all the magicians murdered, including Zélie’s mother.
Zélie’s goal is to return the magic that has now disappeared to her land, but to do so she must tread dangerous paths. Above all, she must face the dangerous crown prince, who wants to prevent Zélie from succeeding on her mission at all costs…
