Work on the sci-fi sequel “Avatar 3” is in full swing and will meet its theatrical release date of December 17, 2025, James Cameron confirmed in an interview with . Two years before its release, you can already see complete scenes from ‘Avatar 3’. And parts of “Avatar 4” have already been filmed – and for a very good reason, which we’ll discuss later in this article.
But first about “Avatar 3”: Cameron confirmed that Kate Winslet will return as Ronal in the sequel. The leader of the Metkayina tribe quickly became a fan favorite in “Avatar 2.” It’s no surprise that Winslet will also appear in the sequel, but Cameron also revealed some new details about her appearance in Part 3.
Kate Winslet didn’t just learn to freedive
After learning challenging freediving for “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” and even breaking a Tom Cruise record, Kate Winslet has now embarked on a different kind of preparation for “Avatar 3.” Her character Ronal is not only the chieftain of the Metkayina together with her husband Tonowari (Cliff Curtis), she is also their shaman. And the focus in “Avatar 3” is now on this activity, which is why Winslet has undergone an unusual training:
James Cameron confirmed that Kate Winslet was “trained” by a real shaman. There she learned techniques that she will use in the next “Avatar”. “Like you [Winslet] look how they [in ‚Avatar 2‘] performing the cleansing ritual to bring Kitty back to life and some of what she will do in Film 3, it’s all based on real procedures.
“Avatar 4” has a time jump
While “Avatar 3” is currently in post-production, the scenes for “Avatar 4” have already been shot – and for good reason. In the -Interview, James Cameron spoke about it again, that there will be a six-year time jump in “Avatar 4.” And not between part 3 and part 4, but actually from part 4.
It was therefore necessary to shoot scenes with the younger actors now to credibly convey the jump in time in the film. The scenes where the characters are six years older will be shot after the theatrical release of ‘Avatar 3’ – so in 2026 at the earliest.
The theatrical release for ‘Avatar 4’ is currently scheduled for December 19, 2029, and ‘Avatar 5’ on December 17, 2031. But first we dive back into the cold water with ‘Avatar 3’ – and another one at that. know the Na’vi people and thus a new habitat on Pandora: the Ash people, who live in a volcanic area. “Avatar 3” will hit theaters on December 17, 2025.
