First album for “Bon Schuur Ticino” after the opening weekend in the cinema

“Bon Schuur Ticino” attracted 22,021 film visitors to the cinemas during its opening weekend. This puts the comedy on par with the most successful Swiss film to date, “Platzspitzbaby”.

‘Bon Schuur Ticino’ by Peter Luisi, starring comedian Beat Schlatter, was released in cinemas in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino last Thursday. The number of visitors since then is “equivalent to the most successful Swiss cinema release since the pandemic”, with “Platzspitzbaby”, which opened in January 2020. Distributor DCM Film Distribution announced this on Monday.

The comedy ‘Bon Schuur Ticino’ takes an ironic look at the different cultural sensitivities in the Swiss language areas. Luisi and Schlatter made a film of the thought experiment in which Swiss voters decided that only French would be spoken in the country.

The comedy is based on an audience that looks at their own country with self-mockery and many moments of laughter. ‘Platzspitzbaby’, which hit the screens in German-speaking Switzerland in January 2020, is completely different: Pierre Monnard’s drama tells the story of a girl and her drug addict mother in Zurich.

Ten days after its theatrical release, the film sold 104,000 tickets. It remains to be seen whether ‘Bon Schuur Ticino’ can keep up. The film doesn’t open until February 14 in French-speaking Switzerland. (sda)
