This series is absolutely brilliant, but definitely not for the faint of heart: “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. The chaos crew around Dee, Dennis and their father Frank is coming to Amazon! Starting today, November 30, 2023, you can stream 14 (!) seasons of this brutally funny, wonderfully amoral and deeply cynical sitcom on Prime Video.
By the way, the sixteenth season of the cult series has already started in the US this year, making ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ the title of the longest-running live-action sitcom. The first season of the series appeared on American television screens in 2005. And unlike some other productions, the quality of the series has hardly diminished even after all these years.
This is mainly due to the excellent cast of the sitcom. Glenn Howerton (“BlackBerry”), Rob McElhenney (“Welcome to Wrexham”), Kaitlin Olson (“Finding Dory”), Charlie Day (“The Super Mario Bros. Movie”) and Hollywood legend Danny DeVito (“Haunted Mansion” ) form the heart of “IASIP” and touch each other with an unconditional joy of playing.
It’s a shame that the series still has a niche existence in Germany, despite its longevity and all the memes it spawned (“So anyway, I started popping”). Hopefully that should change soon with availability through Amazon Prime Video.
And that’s what “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is about
Charlie (Charlie Day), Mac (series co-creator Rob McElhenney), Dennis (series co-creator Glenn Howerton) and Deandra (Kaitlin Olson) are four deeply broken “friends” who run a pub together in Philadelphia. But the customers stay away and little else comes together in the lives of the main characters. To increase sales in their bar, the group uses a wide variety and often very amoral methods, which in turn causes many difficulties. Dennis and Dee’s stepfather Frank (Danny DeVito) is also ready for any stupidity and crime, who is absolutely not inferior to the clique in terms of egocentrism.
There are no moral barriers for the gang and so with each episode the audience can be excited to see what impossible madness the idiots will maneuver themselves into again this time and what absurd ideas they will use to get their heads out of the loop. This inventiveness has kept It’s Always Sunny reinvented over the years, which explains the series’ enduring popularity.
