Recently, Tim Allen appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show and said that Bob Iger, the head of Disney, definitely wants to make “Toy Story 5” a reality. Tim Allen (voices Buzz Lightyear in the English original) and Tom Hanks (Woody) return. This is good news for fans who are certainly eager to return to the popular franchise four years after ‘A Toy Story: Everything listens to any command’.
But that’s not all about “Toy Story 5” because Tim Allen was there recently The movie Dweeb as a guest to actually talk about the second season of “The Santa Clauses”. In the interview, the conversation also focused on the fifth part of the popular animated series – and Tim Allen revealed his idea of what the plot could look like there. Here, adult Andy should be the center of the action.
“Toy Story 5” from Andy’s perspective?
“What if the whole story was about Andy as an adult? He has kids now and they happen to be online and one of the kids asks, “Have you seen this toy before?” And Andy sees that it is Buzz, who is missing a hand. The site sells vintage toys. And Andy is going to collect all the toys. He has to find them all and put them back together. He will take her back to his house and the whole story will start again with his son.”says Allen, explaining his approach.
It would be an approach that would fit perfectly into the ‘Toy Story’ franchise, which has always been about growing older, saying goodbye and the next steps in life. The idea presented by Tim Allen would use Andy’s perspective to convey that this toy has defined his life for a long time – and he now wants to pass that special feeling on to his children. You can already imagine how emotional the whole thing would be in the end.
Does Tim Allen’s idea fit into the ‘Toy Story’ canon?
The only question is how such a plot could possibly fit into the ‘Toy Story’ series. At the end of Toy Story 3, Andy gave his toys to the little girl Bonnie Anderson. How old is Bonnie in Tim Allen’s pitch for Toy Story 5? Is she now at an age where she is no longer interested in playing with Buzz, Woody, Rex and Co.? Additionally, after the emotional farewell in Part 3, some viewers may find it difficult to watch Andy create a new chapter for himself on Buzz and Co. opens.
It is not yet known what “Toy Story 5” will be about. The plot that Tim Allen revealed is just his own idea to further expand the franchise in a coherent way. It’s also not confirmed when filming will begin and how long Part 5 is expected to be in theaters. But still: even though Tim Allen’s idea has some substantive caveats, it is certainly convincing on paper.
