“Napoleon” is conquering cinemas worldwide, even leaving “The Hunger Games 5” behind!

The two-and-a-half-hour historical epic “Napoleon” has been eagerly anticipated by fans of “Gladiator” director Ridley Scott in recent weeks and months, but did not give much hope for a major box office success. On the one hand because of the long playing time and the historically serious genre, on the other hand because of the impending streaming start on AppleTV+. Against expectations, the biopic about the infamous French emperor managed to conquer the global cinema charts in the first weekend after its theatrical release and climbed its way to the top both internationally and in Germany.

The battle epic starring Joaquin Phoenix grossed approximately $78.8 million worldwide this weekend. Of this, $33.1 million came from North American cinemas, while $46.6 million was earned in the international market. In Germany, around 260,000 people bought a cinema ticket for Ridley Scott’s battle epic.

While “The Hunger Games – The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes” defended the top spot with approximately $42 million in its second weekend after its theatrical release in the US, ‘Napoleon’ overtakes the ‘Hunger Games’ prequel on a global level. The science fiction adventure also lands in Germany Tom Blyth And Rachel Zegler With 225,000 viewers over the weekend, it ranked second on the cinema charts behind ‘Napoleon’.

“The Marvels” continues to flop

After its third weekend in theaters worldwide (the film premiered in this country on November 8), the superhero film “The Marvels” is still on track to become the biggest MCU flop in history. In the US, the action spectacle starring Brie Larson grossed approximately $9.2 million over the Thanksgiving long weekend, reaching No. 6 on the North American box office charts.

In total, “The Marvels” cost $76.85 million in the US, during director’s film Nia DaCosta With a worldwide gross of $187 million, it’s still well behind The Incredible Hulkwhich was only able to generate $264 million in the global market in 2008, making it the lowest of any MCU film at the box office to date.

How will Disney’s “Wish” start in Germany?

After ‘The Marvels’, Disney is back with the animated adventure ‘Wish” from the director of “Frozen”. Chris Buck in the starting blocks, which only hits theaters here this week on November 30. In the US, the film opened in theaters over Thanksgiving weekend with $31.7 million, landing at No. 3 on the charts behind “Napoleon” and “The Hunger Games.”

This means that “Wish” joins the disappointing numbers surrounding “The Marvels,” at least in North America. We can’t wait to see which character will play the Disney adventure in German cinemas.
