Yes, the “Resident Evil” series by Paul WS Anderson (“Alien Vs. Predator”) has had to endure a lot of criticism. Not just from fans of the video game models (because the movies don’t really have much in common with them). Even beyond that, critics weren’t exactly squeamish about the zombie action thrillers. However, the mixed reaction from the press did not detract from the success: ‘Resident Evil’ can even be celebrated as the most successful zombie series of all time.
You haven’t seen the movies yet, but do you think the start of the dark season is the perfect time to catch up on all the parts on Netflix? Then you have to work a bit hard, because ‘Resident Evil 2-6’ is only available on the streaming service with the big red N until December 1, 2023. This deadline does not apply to the first part, as it will remain available on Netflix for the time being.
That’s what the ‘Resident Evil’ movies are about
“Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse”: After Alice (Milla Jovovich) wakes up in the hospital, she is presented with a sight of destruction: the streets of Raccoon City are empty and trails of blood are everywhere. Apparently the zombies have escaped from their underground prison. The city limits have been cordoned off by the Umbrella Corporation and no one is allowed outside. Armed, Alice sets out to find the cause of the catastrophe. She is supported by ex-cop Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) and elite fighter Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr).
“Resident Evil 3: Extinction”: Nearly all of humanity has been infected with the T-virus. The last survivors wander aimlessly. One of these convoys, led by Olivera and Claire Redfield (Ali Larter), encounters the mysterious Alice in the Nevada desert. They have found data showing that there is still an entire colony of survivors in the vastness of Alaska. The entourage sets out to cling to this last straw.
“Resident Evil 4: Afterlife”: The Umbrella Corporation nearly wiped out humanity. Alice, who survived the virus and has since acquired superpowers, opposes CEO Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts). After a confrontation with her arch-rival, Alice barely makes it to Los Angeles, where one of humanity’s last enclaves is said to be holed up. She has no idea this is a trap.
“Resident Evil 5: Retribution”: The T-virus continues to devastate the Earth. Alice awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most secret operations facility and reveals more of her mysterious past as she explores the complex and attempts to escape with the help of spy Ada Wong (Bingbing Li). Her old friend Luther West (Boris Kodjoe) is also on his way to visit her. But escape is difficult, as Umbrella’s bunker complex consists of a series of zombie-infested city simulations that must be traversed.
“Resident Evil 6: The Final Chapter”: Humanity faces the final end. Alice is the sole survivor of the group that fought the undead in Washington DC. Now she must return to Raccoon City to stop the T-virus once and for all. There, the Umbrella leadership gathered around Albert Wesker and Dr. Isaacs (Iain Glen) sends his troops to kill the last survivors. A race against time begins in which Alice receives support from Claire, who has joined a group led by Doc (Eoin Macken).
