After Brendan Fraser (“The Mummy”) became an absolute superstar around the turn of the millennium, things have become quite quiet around the popular actor in recent years. Private reasons were ultimately the deciding factor. After Fraser appeared again in a few supporting roles, the big comeback followed this year with ‘The Whale’.
For his role as the extremely obese Charlie in Darren Aronofsky’s character drama, Brendan Fraser won the Oscar in the Best Actor category, beating the likes of Austin Butler (“Elvis”) and Colin Farrell (“The Banshees Of Inisherin”). It has now been revealed which film Brendan Fraser will star in next following his Academy Award win.
Brendan Fraser rents in Tokyo
It’s a tragicomedy”Rental Family“, directed by Hikari Mitsushima. This year, the Japanese director delivered one of the most popular Netflix series of 2023 with ‘Beef’. Together with Stephen Blahut, who previously worked mainly as a cameraman (including on ’37 Seconds’ and various music videos), Hikari Mitsushima will also be responsible for the script.
In the film, Brendan Fraser plays a down-and-out actor living in Tokyo. This can be done by a so-called labor power. Customers have the option to hire actors who then act as friends, family members or colleagues – for example at weddings or simply in everyday situations. Importantly, the whole thing plays out on a purely platonic level.
The actor played by Fraser is said to be busy with his work for the is sent on an unexpected journey that also confronts him with himself. The cameras should be operational in the spring of 2024. The film was shot in Japan. It is not yet known who will appear in front of the camera besides Brendan Fraser.
