The fact that another sequel to “Frozen” was announced a few days ago came a bit out of nowhere so early, but it’s not really surprising. With worldwide box office revenues of a whopping $1.29 (“Frozen”) and $1.45 (“Frozen 2”) billion, the first two “Frozen” installments rank as the 2nd and 4th most successful animated films of all time (No. 1 Disney’s “Lion King” remake, No. 3 “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”). It is therefore no wonder that Disney not only expands the franchise with short films, series specials and a podcast, but also wants to continue with this in the cinema.
And the fact that “Frozen 3” will definitely be a hit given its continued popularity is probably not a particularly steep proposition and would probably have paved the way for a fourth installment at the very latest. According to co-director and co-writer of “Frozen 1&2,” the two sequels are now being developed together Jennifer Lee also substantive reasons…
XXL story – including cliffhanger?
“With the direction we’re going, we just have a lot of story to tell. I think it might be enough for two films.”said Lee, who now also works as creative director at Walt Disney Animation Studios, in an interview with the website . Similar to blockbuster doubles like “Matrix Reloaded” and “Matrix Revolutions” or “Pirates of the Caribbean 2” and “Pirates of the Caribbean 3,” we might even expect a huge cliffhanger between the new “Frozen” films. But that’s still pure speculation at this point.
Will “Frozen 3” and “Frozen 4” come close together?
That actor Josh Gad, who lends his voice to snowman and scene-stealer Olaf in the English original, reveals the ‘Frozen’ plans in the American TV show ‘The View’ (via ) also as “Pretty mind-blowing [und] exciting” but could also be taken as a teaser for the dimensions of the upcoming “Frozen” sequels.
At the same time, this could also mean that the extensive sequels will have to wait a while. In any case, “Frozen 3” is not expected before 2025, so that there will ultimately be a similar period between parts 2 and 3 as the first two parts from 2013 and 2019. However, because parts 3 and 4 are being developed together, “Frozen 4” cannot wait that long. However, there are currently no theatrical release dates for the sequels.
