It’s been a long time coming, but what takes a long time is finally working out – at least for fans of the “Beverly Hills Cop” series. Thirty years after his last big-screen adventure in “Beverly Hills Cop 3,” Eddie Murphy returns to his signature role and will once again take down a bunch of bad guys as the chattering gangster terror Axel Foley.
“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley” aka. “Beverly Hills Cop 4” will be released on streaming giant Netflix later next year. But aside from the announcement, there was little for fans to fuel their anticipation. That’s changing now because in the 2024 preview issue of the American film magazine There is a first photo of the elderly Axel Foley:
Here’s what we know about “Beverly Hills Cop 4”
In addition to Eddie Murphy, a number of other popular actors from the series are also returning. The return of actors Judge Reinhold and John Ashton in particular will have satisfied many fans. They play officers Billy Rosewood and John Taggart, who worked with Detroit police officer Axel Foley during his travels to Beverly Hills. Reinhold’s return in particular seemed impossible for a long time, as he had not taken on a role since 2017 and had almost completely withdrawn from the public eye since then.
In addition to the well-known returnees, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“Inception”) and Kevin Bacon (“Footlosse”) will also appear in Mark Molloy’s action comedy. The film was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who also appears in the latest issue of excited about working with Eddie Murphy:
“Every time he walks on set, you never know what to expect. And it’s always quite brilliant. […] Every day he’s there takes you back to the 80s.”
Let’s hope then that this ’80s flair carries over to the finished film product. There is currently no specific start date for “Beverly Hills Cop 4” – so far all we know is that the cult detective will return to streaming giant Netflix in 2024.
