In ‘The Killer’ we visit the Dominican Republic, New Orleans, Florida and New York City together with the nameless killer (Michael Fassbender). However, it all starts in Paris. Here we witness how the professional killing machine prepares for his latest mission. The scouting, the planning, the waiting. The scene where David Fincher The opening scene of his ice-cold thriller may sound familiar to you.
The empty office from which the killer observes a hotel suite across the street is located in the Latin Quarter. More specifically, David Fincher filmed at Place de l’Estrapade. And this is exactly where another very successful Netflix production was filmed: The series “Emily in Paris“. The main character, played by Lily Collins, has her apartment here, near the Hotel des Grands Hommes, where Michael Fassbender’s killer must eliminate his target.
The picturesque Latin Quarter is not only the setting for several films, but is also one of the most popular neighborhoods in the metropolis. The district is known for its bookstores, including the famous Shaespeare and Company bookstore, as well as cinemas, the Jardin des Planetes botanical garden, the Panthéon and the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle.
As mentioned at the beginning, “The Killer” only takes place in Paris at the beginning. So if you’re prepared to get a lot of Francophile wanderlust here because David Fincher is really having a good time in the French capital, you should lower your expectations. However, this does not apply to the thriller itself. It’s absolutely excellent, as you can see in our effusive FILMSTARTS review.
