Many years ago, Zack Snyder went to George Lucas to pitch an idea for his Star Wars movie. But he refused and sold his creation to Disney shortly afterwards. But Snyder kept the idea with him and a few years ago thought to himself: I’ll just make my own “Star Wars.” With Netflix he found an enthusiastic buyer and partner.

Four cinemas show ‘Rebel Moon’
As Zack Snyder himself announced: From December 15 to 21, there will be screenings of “Rebel Moon” exclusively on 70mm in four cinemas around the world:
- into the Egyptian Theater Los Angeles
- into the Paris Theater New York
- into the TIFF Bell Lightbox Toronto
- into the Prince Charles cinema London
If you want to experience ‘Rebel Moon’ in cinemas and on 70mm, which guarantees a particularly rich level of detail and is perfect for large screens, you have to be very fast in many respects. This option is only available for one week and with only four locations and therefore a very limited number of screenings, there is a good chance that they will sell out quickly. Presales start on November 15, 2023.
Probably the biggest obstacle for all our readers who don’t live in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto or London and will be there in mid-December is getting there. It currently looks like these four locations will remain the same – even though the loud Snyder fans on social media are already begging Netflix for further screenings.
The choice of cinemas is no coincidence. On the one hand, there is only a limited selection of locations where films on 70mm can be shown. The cinemas mentioned not only have the technology and the enormous screen, where the advantages come into their own. Two of these are also owned by Netflix itself: the Paris Theater in New York and the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles.
The latter is one of the most traditional cinemas in the film industry. It is located in the heart of Hollywood. The first major premiere of a Hollywood film with a star cast etc. took place here (1922 for “Robin Hood”). A few years ago, Netflix bought it and renovated it extensively. The reopening will not take place until tomorrow, November 9, 2023, with a screening of “The Killer” personally accompanied by David Fincher.
