Like every year, the travel brand ‘Lonely Planet’ has chosen the best travel destinations in the world. Nairobi takes first place among cities: Kenya’s capital “finally claims its status as a global cultural center,” announces “Lonely Planet.” There is a dynamic offering in the gastronomic scene, as well as numerous art and cultural events that are constantly changing.

Nairobi is in first place ahead of Paris (2nd place) and Montreal (3rd place), among others. But what does the capital of Kenya actually have to offer?

“Lonely Planet” has presented four activities that you should definitely do in Namibia:

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is an NGO primarily committed to the protection of elephants. According to its own statements, it runs the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world.

The Karen Blixen Museum is one of the national museums in Kenya. It is the former home of the Danish writer Karen Blixen, who wrote the famous autobiography ‘Out of Africa’, which was also made into a film.

To escape the noisy city, one can visit Karura Forest, an urban forest of Nairobi.

The Nairobi National Museum has collections and exhibitions about the culture and history of East Africa. At the same time, it is a research institute with four research departments: Zoology, Center for Biodiversity, East African Herbarium (with the largest botanical collection in Africa) and Geosciences.

Nairobi may be the best travel destination for 2024 according to Lonely Planet, but there are still a few things to consider before visiting the city. According to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EDA), there are major political and social tensions in Kenya, which could result at any time in “demonstrations, roadblocks or outbreaks of violence”. There is a high risk of violent clashes and a risk of terrorist acts.

Widespread violent crime poses the greatest risk, especially to solo travelers. Thefts are often committed by people in police uniforms.

Because of these risks, there are some precautions you should take in Nairobi:

In addition to the usual criminal offenses, there are a number of special crimes for which you can be prosecuted in Nairobi:
