Reik celebrates 20 years with the return of ‘our pop’

The Mexican band Reik 2023 marks its first two decades with an album in which it returns to the classic pop that characterized it in its beginnings, and the proof of this is the new single “El Correct” in collaboration with compatriot Carin León, according to what its members said in interview for EFE.

All the songs on the album will reflect “who we are now, in this moment,” Julio Mejía, the guitarist of the group that will premiere “El Correct” this Thursday at the first Rolling Stone Awards in Spanish in Miami Beach, told EFE.

For years, Reik experimented musically, combining pop with all kinds of music Latin genresincluding reggaeton, trap, tropical rhythms and rock.

Their voices mingled with those of the stars Ricky Martin, Sebastian Yatra, Wisin, Ozuna, Maluma, Nicky Jam and many others.

“There are albums, for me, that are very crucial in our career, like the first one (“Reik”, 2005), as “Danger” (2011), as it was “Des/Love” (2016). We’re going to bet on this right now and I think we’re feeling the energy again,” added Navarro, the trio’s vocal leader.

Reik is usually at the forefront of pop. In 2016, before the wave of merging artists of the genre, the trio had already recorded an urban version of their hit “I already found out” with Nicky Jam. Of the nine songs on the album “Now” (2019), seven of them collaborated with urban exponents.

Your EP “Mexico” (2020) was a forerunner of the current trend of embracing the regional Mexican genre. It was a compilation of popular songs from idols as Marco Antonio Solis and Vicente Fernandezadapting them to a romantic pop and acoustic composition.

“We always work true to our taste, which makes us influence and whom we admire,” said Mejía.

“We make this album our own, even in the language. There’s a song called ‘Panorama’who speak like us, like from Mexicali,” Navarro said, explaining that they were inspired by Puerto Rican and Colombian urban artists who use conversational language their countries and cities.

Mejía, on the other hand, assured that the three members of the group are fans Carina Leon and cooperation took place without complications. “It was a very natural atmosphere of cooperation. The work was completed by shooting a video in the desert Sonora on a hot August afternoon under the guidance Camila Grande.

“We had a spectacular sunset. Here we are, dying of heat in the desert. It was a bit intense, but the result was very nice,” Navarro believes.
