Just in time for Halloween for 99 cents on Prime Video: horror classics, a 2023 FSK 18 shocker & other highlights

The annual horror festival is just around the corner. Just in time, Amazon Prime Video starts its next savings campaign and gives you a bunch of horror shockers to rent for 99 cents. So if you want to catch Brendan Cronenberg’s ‘Infinity Pool’ starring Mia Goth in theaters, fancy a classic like ‘Jaws’ or get scared by horror master Stephen King, you can get it on the streaming service now.

Based on experience, the savings promotion will probably last until the end of the weekend, giving you until Sunday, October 29 to take advantage of the enormous horror offer for Halloween. An overview of all 99 cent films can be found here:

It’s worth remembering the rental principle with Amazon Prime Video: once you rent a movie from the selection, you have 30 days to watch the movie – so you can still watch the movies on Halloween even if you them on the weekend. However, once started, the streaming service only gives you 48 hours to finish the movie or watch it continuously.

Here is a carefully selected selection of horror gems for you, which we would especially like to recommend for this year’s horror festival:

Beau is scared: The new film from ‘Hereditary’ and ‘Midsommar’ director Ari Aster was one of the most anticipated highlights of the current cinema year. The Paranoia Test of Patience with Joaquin Phoenix is not a horror movie, but it can be similarly physically, mentally and psychologically exhausting – in the best sense of the word. (3.5 out of 5 stars)

Horror show: The episodic film of zombie pope George A. Romero was written by Stephen King and brings you five short stories from the horror master in your living room. The stories that come to life from a comic are true classics among horror fans, which should not be missed despite the rather mediocre user ratings on FILMSTARTS (2.9 out of 5 stars).

Infinity pool: Another highlight from the current cinema year is Brandon Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool” starring Alexander Skarsgard, Cleopatra Coleman and Mia Goth. In it, a young couple goes on vacation to a remote island resort and is suddenly sucked into a world full of violence and horror. Our FILMSTARTS review states: “Probably the most twisted journey of self-discovery to ever find its way to the big screen.” Well, go then! (4 out of 5 stars)

Titans: The French body horror film ‘Titane’ by director Julia Ducournau celebrated its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021 (and won the Palme d’Or) and made it into our top 20 best films of the cinema year. Here, not only do the boundaries between man and machine, gender and identity blur, but also between lies, truth and unconditional love. A manifesto for loneliness in a stuck society.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey: You’ve probably never seen the popular childhood hero as crazy and bloodthirsty as in “Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey”, which spread fear and terror in local cinemas in May this year. The film teaches fear primarily because a marketing gimmick was exploited to turn the canned VOD film into an interchangeable redneck slasher. It’s good that the film is now actually available as video on demand on Amazon Prime Video for 99 cents and you can judge for yourself. (1 out of 5 stars)

Men – What seeks you will find you: Behind this 2022 film are director and writer Alex Garland (“Ex Machina”) and the art-horror company A24, which sees a young woman in a Scottish town meet a variety of men, all played by Rory Kinnear. The short holiday turns into a nightmare for the British woman, played by Jesse Buckley, which mixes with her personal tragedy. An acting, atmospheric and visually stunning horror trip. (3.5 out of 5 stars)

Finally, we recommend a few true horror classics that you can currently get for an unbeatable bargain price on Amazon Prime Video. These include Steven Spielberg’s ‘Jaws’, Edgar Wright’s ‘Shaun of The Dead’, John Carpenter’s cult classic ‘The Thing from Another World’ and all parts of the ‘Scream’ series. Not to be forgotten are a whole series of Edgar Wallace film adaptations, as well as the “Scary Movie” and “Paranormal Activity” franchises. But that wasn’t all: it’s best to check out Amazon Prime Video for yourself.
