Sony WH-1000XM5: the best headphones in the world?
A look at the tests of the Sony WH-1000XM5 quickly shows that Sony’s flagship is one of the best headphones ever. The noise reduction is especially impressive. Hifi.de speaks of best noise canceling on the market. The XM5 can also reliably block higher frequencies – without the dreaded feeling of pressure on the ears.
The Sony’s are also among the best headphones in terms of sound. This is partly due to the support of Premium audio codecs LDAC. Here Sony is ahead of Apple’s competition. The headphones weigh 250 grams and are very comfortable, but keep your ears warm when worn for a long time.
One battery charge lasts between 30 (with ANC) and 40 hours (without ANC). With the fast charging function, you can charge the headphones within three minutes for three hours of playtime. Here too, Sony offers more than Apple – in this case no less than ten hours.
By the way, the XM5 looks great on the outside much more elegant impression than the XM4, which seems a bit bulkier overall, but can be folded. With the new model this is no longer possible.
The best alternatives to the Sony WH-1000XM5
Anyone who values excellent sound and first-class ANC will find it at the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2* a good alternative for currently 275 euros on Amazon. In Hifi.de’s best list, these headphones take second place and are only beaten by the top model, which is twice as expensive Bowers & Wilkins PX8* exceeded.
They are a cheap alternative to the XM5 Sony WH-1000XM4which are listed at MediaMarkt and Saturn* currently costs only 226.88 euros.
The previous model even offers one slightly better sound than the XM5, but with weaker noise cancellation. If you value the former, you get better sound for 50 euros less. If both are important to you, you can also choose the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2.
