Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Nicky Jam has announced his “imminent” retirement from music with the release of a new album and a final world tour.
“My people, I will retire soon, but this is my legacy ‘Motivation and improvement’. Coming soon, my last global tour and my last album. I love you,” he wrote on his official Instagram account, “El cangri,” as he’s known for his teenage group with Daddy Yankee.
For now, it is not known which countries he will visit and the date the release of a new album.
Born in Massachusetts (United States), to a Puerto Rican father and a Dominican mother, Nick Rivera – his real name – paved the way for the urban genre at the time of artists such as Daddy Yankee, Don Omar and Ivy Queen, with hits such as “Travesure” (2014 ), “I’m going to drink” (2014) or “Until dawn” (2017).
The artist is the winner of the A Latin Grammy 2015 for the best urban performance with the song “El Perdón” and a three-time winner of the Latin American Music Awards thanks to the same song.
He also has experience in the audiovisual field, with his own documentary film “The Winner” (Netflix), he lent his voice to the character of Butch in the animated film “Tom and Jerry” and has his own talk show, “The Rockstar Show.”
Puerto Rican singer Daddy Yankee announced the same April who will bid farewell to his professional career with the ‘La Meta’ event, with several concerts at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Puerto Rico between November 30 and December 3 this year.
