With ‘Two and a Half Men’ and ‘The Big Bang Theory’, Chuck Lorre created two of the most successful sitcoms of all time. Both series have even more in common than their enormous success and love for crazy buddy humor: There’s a hidden detail in ‘The Big Bang Theory’ that also appeared in ‘Two And A Half Men’. And no, we’re not talking about Charlie Sheen and his brief appearance at the Cheesecake Factory.
It’s a much more subtle detail. Remember “Oshikuru Demon Samurai”? This is a fictional series that plays a central role in the season two episode “The Salmon Under My Blouse” of “Two And A Half Men”. In that episode, Charlie is tasked with composing the series’ theme song. Jake is a big fan of the series and helps him with it – also because he is not very enthusiastic about his uncle’s first versions. When Jake and his uncle view the completed series at the end of the episode, there is one major disappointment: Charlie resorted to one of his earlier versions at the last minute.
Do both series take place in the same universe?
Memory refreshed? Good! But now the crucial point: did you notice that the song also appears in “The Big Bang Theory”? In the third episode of the third season, called ‘Sex or Chocolates’, Leonard and his friends sit in front of the television and watch an episode of ‘Oshikuru Demon Samurai’. This sweet Easter egg is inspiring even more fan theories. If Oshikurur Demon Samurai is exclusive to the two cult sitcoms, you might wonder if they’re both set in the same universe.
This was never officially confirmed. Still, the idea is appealing, because it would shed a different light on Charlie Sheen’s brief guest appearance. This would also mean that ‘Young Sheldon’ is also set in the same universe. However, fans shouldn’t hope for a crossover. After all, both sitcoms have been canceled for several years. This Easter egg still provides material for fanfiction!
