For the change of season: This is how to store summer items correctly

The outdoor season is slowly but surely coming to an end. Everything that reminds us of summer is now being thrown aside.

Wash and Dry

I hope it goes without saying: anything that is meant to fade away into oblivion for what seems like an eternity (our hearts break a little) must first be rinsed thoroughly. This means that sweat, sunscreen, perfume and daily dirt disappear from the fabric, which, firstly, prevents unpleasant odors from diminishing the pleasure of seeing each other again, and secondly, prevents moths from attacking our favorite airy items. They see Schweiss & Co. as a personal invitation to a comprehensive textile extravaganza. After washing: Dry sufficiently! Better to let things hang around for another day. Anyone placing damp rooms will have to worry about the aforementioned odor and even mold growth next spring. So who wants this?

Hang or lie down

Is everything clean and dry? Go ahead: Store your clothes properly in the basement or attic. This means figuring out what needs to be hung and what needs to be furnished. For example, stretchy fabrics and lightweight knits lose their shape when hung on a hanger for too long. This can cause blouses to bulge unsightly on the shoulders. Denim, on the other hand, prefers to hang, otherwise unpleasant creases and lines of coloring will appear in the folded areas. So invest in a few neat trouser and skirt hangers or tissues (to separate folded items) and garment bags. And …

…in small cedar bags or necklaces filled with lavender. They can be hung on a coat hanger or directly on a hanger, or scattered among piles of clothes, and in addition to the basic cleaning done in point 1, they will keep moths and other hungry pests away from our clothes.

Missing space? Or do you want to be absolutely sure that your clothes don’t pick up even the slightest pantry/attic aroma or speck of dust? Then vacuum cleaner is your magic word. Seal your summer wardrobe airtight and save space in practical plastic bags and store them wherever you want until next use.

In the summer, sandals and (white) sneakers are in high season. Starting from autumn, these will be replaced by boots and other models that are less sensitive to weather conditions. Please do a detailed cleaning at the end of the season so that we can get back into our beloved summer shoes as soon as the first rays of the spring sun hit. Maybe we can finally visit the shoe repair shop as the sandals are no longer used every day and have the worn out sole replaced or the heel renewed. And then? Let’s hold on to our feet. Using shoe trees or newspaper, wrap them in a bag and leave them to hibernate; They will wake up from this sleep in the best possible way next year. Ready to use in no time and like new.
