Ed Sheeran smoked weed with Snoop Dogg – it wasn’t a good idea

Drug use and the music industry have been together for decades, just like Bavaria and beer drinking. Only a few musicians don’t make headlines at least once in their career for explosive noise snapshots or sensitive stories from other band members.

However, some anticipate this and quickly share their experiences themselves. Ed Sheeran has also been open about his consumption in the past. In his latest anecdote he also refers to some well-known colleagues.

In a podcast with former talk show host Conan O’Brien, Sheeran reports on a meeting with American rapper Snoop Dogg after his concert in Melbourne, Australia. He met the rap star backstage with their mutual friend Russell Crowe and then smoked a jointwhich had fatal consequences, especially for the British singer-songwriter himself.

“I thought to myself: one day I have to smoke to be able to say: I once smoked weed with Snoop Dogg,” the 32-year-old laughs in the podcast. The other two had already smoked one shot after another. Normally he wouldn’t smoke weed himself, the singer admits on “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.”

Because he initially felt good after being offered to smoke weed, he smoked again and again. However, Sheeran describes what happened next as more of a bad trip: “I remember looking at him and thinking: I can’t see anything now.”

In the podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend”, host Conan O’Brien has already spoken with numerous stars from English-speaking countries, including actor Harrison Ford and Coldplay singer Chris Martin. For Ed Sheeran, however, it was not the first public statement about his drug use. In the past he had shared profound experiences with hard drugs with Rolling Stone.

At the age of 24, he used drugs other than alcohol for the first time, because his entire circle of friends did the same. “Then it becomes a once-a-week habit. Then once a day, then twice a day and then without alcohol,” he explained in an interview earlier this year.

However, since the death of his friend Jamal Edwards from cocaine, he has completely stopped his consumption “out of respect”, and he has also stopped drinking high-proof alcohol since the birth of his first daughter. “Having a few beers is one thing. But drinking a bottle of vodka is different,” Sheeran explains.

However, the singer celebrated the release of his current album ‘Autumn Variations’ with a six-hour pub crawl with his fans. Yet one thing seems to remain constant for Ed Sheeran: honesty with the audience.
