About 90 percent of used glass is disposed of in Switzerland, which makes an important contribution to protecting our environment. But if you want to properly dispose of glass bottles, especially wine bottles, there are a few key points to consider.

How to dispose of wine bottles like a pro?

The first thing you look at is the color of the bottle. The green glass is put into the green glass container, the brown glass is put into the amber glass container and the white glass flint glass container. For hygiene reasons, it is recommended to wash glass bottles before disposal.

You can return used natural corks to most wine stores, while synthetic wine corks are thrown into the normal household waste. Wine labels do not need to be removed from the bottle, as the small paper used in the glass recycling process does not play an important role.

However, the thing that must be removed is the capsule or cap. Capsules or lids formerly made of lead or tin are now mostly made of aluminum and belong to metal containers.

It is not a good idea to dispose of mirror or window glass, porcelain, ceramic and earthenware, metal caps or PET bottles in glass containers.

Vases and glasses have increased lead content. Glass packaging for health reasons is strictly limited by law, so vases and glasses cannot be disposed of in glass containers either.

The final point in the disposal of glass bottles is that the blue, red or unidentified glass bottles belong to the green glass containers. Green glass is the most common, so extraneous colors are not so important in rework.
